They are a prominent team in the Scottish Premiership and have never faced relegation since joining the top flight in 1905. Aberdeen has claimed four Scottish league titles, seven Scottish Cups, and six Scottish League Cups. Remarkably, they are the only Scottish team to have won two European trophies - the European Cup Winners' Cup and the European Super Cup in 1983. Founded in 1903 through the merger of three local clubs in Aberdeen, they struggled to compete until the post-war period when they clinched all major Scottish trophies under the leadership of manager Dave Halliday. Their success reached new heights in the 1980s under Alex Ferguson's management, with three league titles, four Scottish Cups, and a Scottish League Cup alongside the European triumphs. Aberdeen was the last club outside the Old Firm to win a league title in 1984-1985, and also the final Scottish team to claim a European trophy. Despite a decrease in achievements after the golden era, Aberdeen won the 2013-2014 Scottish League Cup after a 19-year drought without a major trophy, with several second-place finishes in the league behind Celtic during the 2010s. Since their establishment, Aberdeen has called the Pittodrie Stadium their home, the first all-seated and all-covered stadium in the UK with a capacity of 20,866. Pittodrie was also the pioneer in introducing the dug-out, invented by player and coach Donald Colman. Traditionally dressed in red and white since 1939, Aberdeen previously sported black and gold vertical stripes. Nowadays, they mainly play in all-red kits with white accents. Aberdeen receives immense support from the city and surrounding regions with no local rival, and their major rivalries come from distant clubs like Dundee United and Rangers, known together as the "New Firm" in the 1980s.
